A Nikon profile projector has been modified by motorising the sample traversing plate, and mounting a linear array of photodiodes into its image plane, in order to enable scans of screen slot widths to be easily made. This paper describes the equipment and circuitry of the device, and gives some observations from low grade centrifugal screens as supplied to the industry. Some significant deviations of slot dimensions from the manufacturer's specification are discussed.
