The Tully Sugar Mill is located in one of the wettest areas in Australia and has a large number of tramway bridges, many of which have steel superstructures. With the upgrading of locomotives from 18 to 32 tonnes in weight the overstressing of bridge beams became a matter of concern. An investigation was undertaken to ascertain the strengthening required to increase the capacity of the bridges.
