The present economic state of the sugar industry has more than ever brought about the need to investigate ways and means of reducing costs. Traditional practices and methods of doing things must be investigated carefully to see if simpler, less costly and more effective ways can be adopted. Methods proposed in this paper would be regarded as non-traditional, but in the authors' opinion would reduce costs and be more efficient in operation.
