The significance of trash retention trials in the Isis and Maryborough Mill areas
By Page, RE; Glanville, TJ; Truong, PN
Land degradation through soil erosion cane be a serious problem in areas where sugar cane is grown on sloping lands. Severe erosion can cause increased production costs in the short term and lead to reduction in productivity in the long term. A research program was initiated in 1982 by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI) and Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations (BSES) staff to identify the effects of various trash retention practices on soil erosion and crop agronomy. The trials reported here are a part of a state wide program which also includes experimental sites at Innisfail and Mackay.
