Comprehensive Area Productivity Analysis (CAPA) was launched by Tully Cooperative Sugar Milling Association Limited in 1970 (Borgna, Maddison & Vickers, 1974). It combines assignment and cane receival information to provide Tully growers with a variety of detailed information on farm productivity and productivity trends. This paper documents four aspects of the system, showing how CAPA has been used to provide a management information system for Tully Canegrowers. Response in the past, and in the present tight financial situation, indicates that this service is being used effectively by many growers.
