Aspects of rotary vacuum filter design and operation

Rotary vacuum filters have been widely used in sugar and a variety of other industries for many years. They are well suited to applications where both dewatering and washing are required and appear to be the best of the available equipment for the treatment of cane sugar muds. Although the performance and operation of rotary filters has been investigated by many researchers, little attention has been paid to their design. The only progress has been a steady increase in size. The decision by Mossman mill to install a new 170 m2 filter for the 1984 season provided Sugar Research Institute in collaboration with the fabricator, NQEA, with a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and to incorporate some novel features in a factory scale unit.
