Dunder as a fertiliser for sugar cane in the central district of Queensland

By

The Australian National Power Alcohol factory (ANPA) in Sarina ferments molasses to produce alcohol, with dunder as the waste product. Dunder was mainly disposed of by spraying onto a waste area, but application to cane growing land has recently increased greatly in popularity. This paper reports on a survey of cane quality at Plane Creek mill where dunder was used, the extent of dunder use by cane growers and the effects of dunder on the level of soil fertility at selected sites.
