A review of harvesting developments

By

The activity of mechanical harvesting interfaces with a whole range of disciplines of agricultural technology. When considering harvesting, the industry needs to explore its impact on the individual growers' economy and on the total economy. This paper sets out to review harvesting developments during recent year. A study of the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (Connell & Borrell, 1987) suggests that considerable financial benefits can be achieved by a restructuring of harvesting practices. If world sugar prices remain at uncertain and variable levels, the industry may need to assess its total operations, of which harvesting constitutes a substantial part. If the industry does not critically examine its activities now, it may be forced to do so in the near future.
