Aerodynamics of bagasse particles

By

Particles of bagasse when subjected to a change in velocity of the surrounding gas, accelerate or decelerate to minimise the slip velocity between gas and particle. This paper discusses the aerodynamic response of bagasse particles to a change in air free stream velocity. After reviewing the literature on bagasse pneumatic entrainment, the results are condensed into empricial equations. Pneumatic entrainment applies in situations such as the drying and conveying of bagasse and in a bagasse fired furnace. This paper presents a method of calculating suspended bagasse velocities in an air stream. The time for bagasse particles to accelerate after an instantaneous change of free stream velocity by an air jet is also presented.
