Bagasse spreader design for suspension firing

By

Spreaders provide the means of bagasse injection and dispersal in suspension fired boilers. The combustion performance of these boilers is specifically determined by the geometric design and aerodynamic setup of the bagasse spreaders. This method of bagasse combustion was first introduced to the Australian Sugar Industry in 1962. It was based largely on experience developed with the spreader-stoker firing of coal. Spreader designs adapted for bagasse have generally functioned satisfactorily and have required very little modification since they were initially developed. The investigations presented here were initiated by combustion problems experienced on the smaller 59 t/h boiler at Mossman mill at the start of the 1987 crushing season.
