A proposal for some minimal cane waggon dimensional standards

By

Most railway systems have well established dimentional standards for rolling stock that go hand-in-hand with track geometry standards. Together these standards help to ensure proper performance of the rolling stock on the track. Such standards are often applied across system boundaries and allow interchange of rolling stock between systems. The need for waggon interchange is not as marked on the cane railways although recent amalgamations have highlighted potential problems. While such functional requirements are essential there are potential advantages to all the mills in the industry that use 610 mm gauge railways to standardise at least to the extent where waggons and locomotives may be interchanged.
