Selection of tracers for use with cane and bagasse
By Picaro, T; White, ET; Edwards, BP
Tracer methods are useful in investigating the flow of liquids through cane or bagasse (e.g. in milling or diffuser studies). In use, a shot of tracer is added at the flow inlet. The record of its subsequent appearance at the outlet gives information on the residence time of the fluid. The selection of a suitable tracer is important. The tracer should behave identically to the fluid, yet be readily detected. This study compares laboratory results on the suitability of several cationic and anionic tracers for use with cane.
