Interaction between nitrogen and water supply on the photosynthetic rate of sugar cane leaves
By Ludlow, MM; Ferraris, R; Chapman, LS
In this paper, the authors report on the influence of reduced soil water supply on leaf photosynthetic rates of six varieties that differ in ratooning ability, via effects of leaf nitrogen content and leaf water status. In order to understand the interactive effects of water and nitrogen status of leaf photosynthesis, the effects of each factor alone are presented. In addition, the relationships between the responses of leaf photosynthesis to nitrogen and water status, and ratooning ability are assessed. This work is part of a larger project on improving ratoon yields of sugar cane.
