Genotype x environment (GE) interactions in sugarcane variety trials in the Herbert

By

Variation in the relative performance of varieties across environments (e.g., sites, years, crop cycle) is termed genotype x environment (GE) interaction. In the Herbert region, considerable GE interaction in sugarcane trials is known to exist. This presents complications, but also opportunities, in selecting sugarcane varieties produced from breeding programs. This paper presents results from analyses of several multi-environment trials conducted in the Herbert region by CSR and BSES. Pattern analysis methods were used in an attempt to identify relationships among test sites in terms of genotypic responses, with the aim of providing information that could be useful in choosing environments for selection. The analyses presented here are examples of a number of analyses recently conducted on multi-environment trials in the Herbert region.
