Operation of the swirl burner firing system at Farleigh mill

The design and installation of the SRI Pilot Swirl Burner Firing System (SBFS) at Farleigh Mill were completed during 1989 and results of the initial test program have been described (Dixon, et al., 1990) Redesign of the dry bagasse feeder component during the 1989 season allowed the total firing system to operate, but at a reduced rate. Although the accumulated operating time of the total system up to the end of the 1989 season was relatively short, sufficient experience was acquired to confirm the validity of the swirl burner concept as applied to bagasse. This paper describes experiences gained in operating the system during the 1990 season.
