Solid film lubrication of mill brasses

By

Solid film lubrication of gearing has been successfully applied throughout the sugar milling industry for some years. Now, with greater understanding of the lubrication regimes involved, it is possible to apply solid film lubrication successfully to mill roller journal bearings. Trials of solid film lubrication were conducted on Fairymead's diffuser train dewatering mill during the 1989 season. Because of the favourable properties of this lubricant, success of the trials and favourable economics, all four mills at Millaquin were converted to solid film lubrication for the 1990 crushing season and, along with Fairymead's dewatering mill, now operate with solid film lubricants. This paper outlines experiences in using solid film lubrication on mill brasses at these two mills.
