Automation of pol and brix measurements in cane juice

The development of an automated system for the determination of pol and brix in mill juices has been undertaken in collaboration with the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations (BSES) and Mossman Central Mill. The development of a prototype system for use with first expressed juice was described in detail at the 1990 ASSCT Conference (Crees and Brotherton, 1990). Following the results and experiences of the 1989 season, several modifications were made to the equipment and its operations. The system again operated throughout the season at Mossman mill in parallel with the existing juice laboratory.
