Traffic light control system at Moreton mill

By

Traffic lights at cane railway crossings and over a long, concrete, river bridge have been upgraded successfully in the Moreton mill area. The upgrading became necessary because of repeated failures of the older system, a situation considered unacceptable in a high density traffic area. The Moreton mill cane railway system is not built on ballasted track. Parts of the track are at times under water or buried in mud. In one location, the track is embedded in concrete on a bridge over the Maroochy River, so conventional Sugar Research Institute (SRI) systems, i.e. continuous rail sensing, were not an option because the track is already in place and would be costly to change. The only alternative was to investigate a sport sensing system.
