An electronic fieldbook for cane inspectors

For many years, cane inspectors used hand written field books to record individual block and farm production prior to the pre-season crop estimate, as well as estimate variations, actual block production (tonnes harvested) and second estimate data. From these data, end-of-year statistical reports were generated, all of which was a very time consuming process. This paper describes how, with the aid of a portable computer, a cane inspector can save considerable time in all aspect of field book activities.
