The concept of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the sugar industry was introduced by McKenzie (1990) who observed that a large amount of information about cane farms was stored in computer compatible form so that it would be relatively easy to incorporate it inot geographic information systems. This paper describes an application of GIS technology for productivity analysis in the sugar industry.
