The continuous B massecuite pan at Tully Mill was operated for two weeks during the 1990 season, and for the complete 1991 season. Following some minor problems, the pan has operated satisfactorily. As more experience in the method of pan-stage management is gained, it is expected this unit will achieve better all round pan performance than can be achieved with present batch pans. From experience gained to date with continuous pans, the authors are convinced that this mode of operation is correct. The management of the pan with two different types of B seed is described, as well as different strategies of pan control.
