Modifications to the Racecourse continuous pan

By

Modifications to date have improved the Racecourse Mill continuous pan significantly and streamlined its operation. The simplification of this design has considerably reduced the capital cost difference between it and the mixed cell design, as well as offering a high volumetric efficiency and a coefficient of variation of the residence time distribution half that of the mixed cell design. From experience gained to date the full potential of this pan has still not been realised. The limiting factor has been the shortage of seed at the higher production rates. Given a feed to seed ratio of 2.4 and a plate heater to heat the feed to a constant 70?C, this pan is estimated to be capable of B molasses boil-on rates in excess of 40 t/h.
