Improved extension material from block recording schemes

By

Block recording schemes of varying complexity are now in use at most Australian mills. A number of factors have limited the extension value of the information generated by such schemes. A pilot project was initiated at four mills to improve the accuracy of data input, to facilitate easy access to data by staff, and to enhance presentation of extension material. Procedures were developed to transfer data from mill computers, and to use customised software to quickly produce standard variety and block performance reports. Surveys indicated that the style of report presentation was well received by growers. Comprehension of the reports was also acceptable.
