An overview of mechanical condition monitoring by wear debris analysis

Wear debris analysis can be a useful and cost effective mechanical condition monitoring technique for sugar mill machinery. However, compared with the complementary technique of vibration analysis, little information is available to the engineer that describes the technical detail of wear debris analysis. This paper provides an overview of wear debris analysis, discussing the fundamental actions that control the size, shape and quantity of the wear debris, and the analysis techniques that are available.
