Experience of CSR sugar mills group on the purpose and application of environmental auditing

Environmental auditing will affect all organisations with the passing of an Environmental Protection Bill in Queensland. The Department of Environment and Heritage will require industry to perform more voluntary and compulsory environmental audits. Auditing of this type will be beneficial to both industry and the community alike in helping to protect the environment. In the sugar industry, CSR Sugar mills Group has been performing environmental audits both internally and externally since 1990. This has given Mills Group an insight into the auditing trade which may not be known to those who have not yet started the environmental auditing process. This paper outlines some of CSR's experiences in auditing, while demonstrating the advantages of performing audits.
