Design and operation of a containment system for contaminated vacuum pan Torri water

Entrainment of product into a vacuum pan condenser can occur through operational or equipment failure. Measurement of Torri water conductivity in a pan Torri leg, in combination with isolating and bypass valves, was used in a system to contain and segregate contaminated condenser water for reprocessing. This system was successfully incorporated into the pan stage operation at Mulgrave Mill for the 1993 crushing season. This paper describes the technical development, equipment and operation of the system.
