Modelling of trajectories in pneumatic cane cleaning

It is proposed that the theory of pneumatic cleaning be developed in three main stages. The first stage is the measurement of the aerodynamic properties of the cane supply components. The second and third stages predict the trajectories of the particles in a cleaning chamber. The results will be used to aid the design of cleaning systems. The second stage considers the trajectories of isolated non-interacting particles. The third stage includes the effect of interaction among and between particles (for example, a leaf wrapping itself around a billet). This paper reports on the first and second stages only.
