A model for the juice flows through a moving bed cane diffuser

A computer model has been developed to predict the dynamic flow behaviour of juice in a moving bed cane diffuser. The model is based on fundamental flow mechanisms and involves the part-flooded bed flow theory. it has been used to predict the response of a diffuser to a feed comprising rakes of cane of different varieties and to the effectiveness of different flow control strategies. Model results have been compared with operating data obtained from the Fairymead diffuser.
