An advisory system for the juice handling system at Farleigh mill

An advisory system is being developed at Farleigh Mill to assist with the
change to single shift supervision. The supervisory role at Farleigh Mill was analysed
using system analysis techniques. This revealed four key subsystems which
form the decomposition diagram - quality control, cane receival,1 production process,
inter department. The entities, activities and logical process factors of each
subsystem have been identified. The advisory system development has been based
upon one of the key logical process factors identified.
The advisory system has. been developed as a Windows application on a 486
computer using Toolbook, and records detailed plant data, process characteristics
and operating procedures. This will improve the teaching/learningprocess for new
operators/supervisors and provide an accessible reference point. A trouble shooting
section which provides some problem solving features has been included. This can
be used as a teal time system and upgraded with new improved problem solving
features.
