Rugby 100G for the control of some canegrubs in southern Queensland
By Allsopp, PG; McGill, NG; Tucker, GR
Rugby® 100G (cadusafos) was registered initially for the control of existing
infestations of southern one-year canegrub (Antitragus consanguineus) at 30 kg/ha
with incorporation achieved by a combination of cultivation and irrigation. To
broaden the range of species against which Rugby can be used and to determine the
most economical application rate, 10 replicated field trials and 4 large-scale demonstration trials were conducted against Childers canegrubs (A. parvulus), negatoria
canegrubs (Lepidiota negatoria) and southern one-year canegrubs in southern
Queensland. Results from these trials show that, across a range of soil types, Rugby
100G provides good control of Childers canegrubs at 20-25 kglha, and negatoria
and southern one-year canegrubs at 20 kglha. The higher rate for Childers cane grubs
should be used against heavy infestations. Effective application and incorporation of
Rugby 100G are achieved by application in two narrow bands 20-25 cm apart into
the stool behind twin coulters at a depth of 10 cm, followed by spray or furrow
irrigation within 48 hours. The product has now been registered against these
species at these rates and with this application method.
