Mulgrave ccs declines to record low levels in 1993 and 1995
By Pope, GM
CCS in the Mulgrave Mill district declines in recent years to its lowest levels in 100 years. During this time, there has been a change to green cane harvesting and an increase in the extraneous matter (EM) in cane supplied to the mill. The lowest CCS levels in the mill's history were recorded in 1993 and 1995. However, yields in terms of tonnes cane per hectare and tonnes CCS per hectare have been above average. The CCS of sound clean cane is high but the overall CCS is being diluted by the combined effects of suckers, EM and pest damaged cane.
