Commercial applications of the SRI swirl burner combustion system
By Dixon, TF; Martel, H
The SRI Swirl Burner Combustion System (SBCS) is an advanced technology, high intensity combustion process that has applications to a wide range of biomass fuels. Development of the technology to the commercial scale was completed in 1992 at Farleigh Mill. Subsequent applications of the technology have used four different biomass fuels (sanderdust, sawdust, bagasse and palm oil fibre) in combination with several furnace designs. These applications have established it as a proven commercial technology. The paper presents design and operating information about these applications and summarises the technical aspects that characterise each facility. SBCS at this time represents a technology research and development sequence that has progressed from initial laboratory scale experimentation through to full scale commercial application.
