Estimating pressure losses in pipe fittings at low Reynolds number

By

Experimental pressure loss data for the flow of molasses through four pipe fittings at low Reynolds number are presented. In particular, long-radius 90 degrees elbow, short-radius 90 degrees elbows, 45 degrees and tees used as elbows were examined for flow in the range of Reynolds number from 0.004 to 1.0. Variations in the values of the friction factor for the different fittings at low Reynolds numbers were observed. The calculated friction factor data provide useful information for the design of pipe systems transporting massecuites or molasses in sugar mills.
