Increasing the capacity of the pan stage at Proserpine sugar mill using SRI continuous pans

Proserpine Mill is undergoing a major expansion of cane production and a major capital investment program to increase factory throughput. An increase in the pan stage capacity has been achieved by the installation of SRI (Sugar Research Institute) continuous pans for high-grade seed massecuite and C massecuite production. The C massecuite pan is of 140 m3 massecuite capacity and the high-grade seed pan of 90 m3 massecuite capacity. The C massecuite pan incorporates a stirred final cell. The two pan systems are described and an overview given of the operation of the continuous pans and their integration into the total pan-stage operations.
