Crushing soil contaminated sugar cane
By Downing, CM; Loughran, JG; Domanti, SA
This paper reports on a series of experiments identifying the effects of soil contamination on the mechanical properties of prepared sugar cane under confined uniaxial test conditions. The material properties are used in two and three dimensional finite element models of the rolling process. Results from the finite element modelling and experimental mill experiments are compared. The similarity of the experimental mill roll load test traces for clean cane and highly soil contaminated cane is discussed in terms of tensile and radial fibre loads.
