Manufacturing Field Tour
This year the ASSCT Delegates will have the opportunity to take part in a manufacturing tour on Tuesday 21st April 2026 showcasing innovation across the sugar industry supply chain. The tour includes a visit to the QUT Mackay Renewable Biocommodities Pilot Plant. The renewable biocommodities pilot plant in Mackay is focused on unlocking the potential of coproducts (proteins and fuels primarily) created from milling byproducts such as bagasse and molasses. They are undergoing a significant upgrade to increase the scale of their production to further test the opportunities of different value chains in sugar.
The program also features a workshop at Consolidated Engineering Plastics. Consolidated plastics supplies a great deal of purpose built equipment to the sugar industry including their diacon guarding. They are interested to show delegates the new plastic tanks they are designing to offer alternatives to metals as well as brass grinding bays they are constructing to help mills keep up with lead exposure legislation.
Due to venue capacity limits we wish to advise the manufacturing tour will be available to a maximum of 40 attendees.
Manufacturing Tour PPE Requirements
To help save time at each site, delegates are asked to bring their own hi-vis shirt/vest, safety glasses and hearing protection where possible.
